Why VW Killed Off Lamborghini Estoque, A Super Saloon Based On Audi A8 And Powered By Gallardo’s V10
The Lamborghini Estoque is a four-door super sports car unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2008.
The Super Saloon combines the features of both a top-class super sports car and a highly practical GT.
It used a spaceframe from an Audi A8 sedan and 556 hp V10 engine from the Lamborghini Gallardo.
But sadly, the Estoque was shelved in 2009, as VW board wasn’t too convinced about the feasibility of this project.
Instead, the VW board preferred the Porsche Panamera as a four-seater supercar, according to reports.
The Lamborghini Estoque Super Saloon isn’t the only project that have been canceled by the Volkswagen Group.
Audi Rosemeyer, a concept car with a monstrous W16 8.0 liter naturally aspirated engine, also didn’t make it to production.
Automakers loves revealing concepts cars, which details features of cars they plan to put into production in the nearest future. But sadly, some of these concepts never make it to production, a prime example being the Lamborghini Estoque Super Saloon.

The Estoque project was brought back to live in 2010 when Lamborghini’s sales started suffering, with plans to make the production version to reach the dealership by 2012.
Again, the project hit the rocks after the company reportedly lost funding for the project from the VW board, with Stefan Winkelmann, the Lamborghini CEO at the time, saying that the Estoque only ever received feasibility funding from VW.
But the Lamborghini Estoque Super Saloon isn’t the only project that have been canceled by the Volkswagen Group.

Back in the year 2000, VW Group unveiled a futuristic concept car, the Audi Rosemeyer, to pay tribute to German racing driver, Bernard Rosemeyer.
The Audi Rosemeyer concept car carries a monstrous W16 8.0 liter naturally aspirated engine that will later be used on the 2005 Bugatti Veyron.
Just like the Estoque, the Audi Rosemeyer was ultimately deemed unfit for production, both because of extremely high projected production costs; and also Audi’s unwillingness to create in-house competition with Lamborghini, which Audi had purchased during the 1990s.
But some sources also revealed the 2-door coupe wasn’t produced so that it will not get in the way of the Bugatti 18/3 Chiron, a concept that later became the Bugatti Veyron.
