Four Los Angeles residents arrested after wearing “bear costume” to tear up a Rolls-Royce Ghost for insurance payouts.

Further investigation found two other ‘bear attacks’ were staged by the four suspects for two Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

During a search at the suspects’ home, agents discovered a full bear suit complete with sharp metal claws.

According to reports, insurance companies were defrauded of $142k because of the fraud committed by the suspects.

Four Los Angeles residents have been arrested by the police after investigations found the suspects committed insurance fraud by claiming a real bear had caused damage to their vehicles.

A surveillance video released by the California Department of Insurance, which appeared to show a bear ripping through the interior of a 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost, was submitted by the suspects for an insurance claim in January.

Suspecting a foul play, investigators looking into the claim took the footage submitted by the suspects to biologists with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who confirmed “it was clearly a human in a bear suit.”

“Upon further scrutiny of the video, the investigation determined the bear was actually a person in a bear costume,” the Department said, adding that investigation found two other ‘bear attacks’ were staged by the suspects for two vehicles.

“Detectives found two additional insurance claims with two different insurance companies, for the suspects with the same date of loss and at the same location.

“Each of those claims involved two different vehicles, a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350, and the suspects again appeared to use a bear costume to make it appear that a bear also entered and damaged those vehicles.”

During a search at the suspects’ home, California Department of Insurance said agents discovered a full bear suit complete with sharp metal claws, adding that “insurance companies were defrauded of $141,839 because of the alleged fraud committed by the suspects.
