FCT Police arrest eight (8) suspected car theft syndicate operating within the Federal Capital Territory.
Two of the arrested suspects includes husband-and-wife duo, who specializes in using master keys to steal vehicles.
FCT Police Command said that the wife confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from Jumia online marketplace.
The operatives of the FCT Police Command have announced the recovery of three stolen vehicles and the arrest of eight (8) suspected car theft syndicate operating within the Federal Capital Territory.
Two of the arrested 8 suspects includes husband-and-wife duo, who specializes in using master keys to gain access to the targeted vehicles, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, on April 19th.
Adah explained that the wife confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which is then used by her husband used to steal the target vehicles.
“On 19th April 2025, following the report of a stolen gold Toyota Corolla (Reg No. ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad arrested one Yusuf Yunusa.”
“Further investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on 25th April in Kwali Area Council. She confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband used to steal vehicles, while she created distractions to facilitate the crimes.”
Also arrested were five suspects following a report from a car buyer in Life Camp regarding a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400, which was reportedly stolen from Lekki, Lagos.
“In another case, on 28th April 2025, police responded to a report from a car buyer in Life Camp regarding a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (Reg No. AAA 07 KA).”
“Five suspects were arrested and identified as Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen. The stolen vehicle was recovered and the suspects confessed to stealing it from their employer.”
Also arrested is one George Idung, a driver, who was tracked to his village in Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State after fleeing with his employer’s unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure pickup truck.
Police operatives from Mabushi Division, acting on credible intelligence, reportedly recovered the vehicle and apprehended the suspect while attempting to sell it.
“All eight suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, according to the statement released by the Command.”
Reacting to car recoveries and arrest, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao S. Adewale, encouraged residents to install tracking devices in their vehicles, avoid isolated parking spaces, and verify vehicle ownership before purchase.
