Mercedes-Benz W114 limousine, the official car of Brig. Gen Mobolaji Johnson as Governor of Lagos State.

Johnson was the first Governor of Lagos State from May 1967 to July 1975 during the military regime of General Gowon.

Fitted with the LSG 1 number plate, Johnson’s official vehicle was popular among high-ranking military officers in the 1970s.





Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 limousine was also used by General Yakubu Gowon during his administration from 1966 to 1975.

This lone picture reportedly taken in the early 1970s shows a Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 limousine and the very State Car used by Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson while he was the Governor of Lagos State.

Known for building 60.7-km International Express Road (Lagos–Badagry Expressway and the Eko Bridge, Lagos-born Johnson was the first Governor of Lagos State from May 1967 to July 1975 during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon.

Mercedes-Benz W110 sedan

Johnson had after earlier served as Military Administrator of the Federal territory of Lagos from January 1966 to May 1967 during the military regime of General Aguyi-Ironsi. During this time, Johnson used a Mercedes-Benz W110 sedan fitted with NA 73 (Nigerian Army) number plate.

Fitted with the LSG 1 (Lagos State Government 1) number plate, Johnson’s official vehicle as Lagos Governor was popular among high-ranking military officers in the 1970s, as it was also used by General Yakubu Gowon.

Boasting a wheelbase of 3,400 mm (133.9 in), the Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 limousine was also used by General Yakubu Gowon during his administration from 1966 to 1975 and by Gowon’s successor, General Murtala Muhammed, who was fatally killed in an unarmored variant.

Powering the 4-door Mercedes-Benz limousine is a six-cylinder gasoline engines for the W114 variant while the W115 model was available with four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.
