A throwback photo reportedly taken in 1974 shows a row of Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 cars fitted with “FGN” (Federal Government of Nigeria) license plates, showing that are owned by the Nigerian Government.

During this period, the limousine variant of these Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 models were also used as the official cars of Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon and some of the State administrators, including Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson, who governed Lagos State.
