Xiaomi, perhaps best known for its products in your pocket (smartphone) and also a promising EV manufacturer, reportedly plans to expand its car-related activities to Europe as early as 2027.

In its home country of China, there’s already a real buzz surrounding this SU7 and especially its SUV sibling, the YU7. While Xiaomi was already called “the Apple of China” before the arrival of the cars, the EVs could well make the company “the Tesla of China.” Nio is clearly outpaced…

Regardless, expectations are higher than usual for a newcomer from China. Xiaomi makes no secret of the fact that Europe is high on its expansion wish list, but it previously seemed that this could still take a long time. “By 2030 at the latest” was the idea, and that still holds if CEO Lu Weibing’s new schedule is released. Weibing told Bloomberg that Xiaomi cars should arrive in Europe as early as 2027, so within a year or two.

The hype surrounding Xiaomi isn’t just theoretical; it’s also generating healthy sales figures and therefore revenue. This would be a welcome addition to Xiaomi’s portfolio now that demand for its smartphones has actually declined, according to Bloomberg. Xiaomi isn’t being modest and is aiming for a top-5 position in the global car market. Yes, that’s the car market, not purely the EV market. So Tesla and BYD can certainly start to worry, too.
