VW Pleased With EU Relaxation On The Ban Of ICEs
Volkswagen is pleased that there will no longer be a complete ban on newly produced cars with combustion engines in the EU as of 2035. The company described the European Union’s move as “pragmatic” and “economically responsible.”
“Opening the market to vehicles with combustion engines, while offsetting emissions, is pragmatic and in line with market conditions,” says the German group with ten brands. Volkswagen has long advocated for a relaxation of the ban.
The European Commission presented a revision on Tuesday, stating that newly produced cars do not have to be completely emission-free but must emit 90 percent less CO₂ compared to 2021. This leaves room for car manufacturers to introduce hybrid cars onto the European market.
