Sales of American electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla in the European Union fell by 34.2 percent in November, according to data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), reports Anadolu.

Billionaire Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company, Tesla, sold 12,130 units in the EU last month, an ACEA report showed. In the same month of 2024, that number was 18,430.  The company’s market share fell to 1.4 percent, from 2.1 percent in November last year.

In the first 11 months of the year, Tesla’s sales in the EU fell by 38.8 percent compared to the same period in 2024, to 129,024 units. In Europe, including the European Union, the European Free Trade Association, and Great Britain, Tesla sales fell 11.8 percent year-on-year to 22,801 units.

Meanwhile, total sales of battery electric cars rose by 44.1 percent to 188,730 units in the EU. China’s BYD, one of Tesla’s main competitors, saw sales in the EU grow by 235.2 percent year-on-year, selling 16,158 units.

BYD’s market share rose to 1.8 percent in November, from 0.6 percent in the same month last year. Tesla’s sales in Europe have been falling sharply this year, in part due to Musk’s controversial political views, his meddling in European politics, and rapid competition from Chinese brands.
