Mercedes-Benz Has Agreed To Pay $120 Million In Multiple American States

Mercedes-Benz announced that it will pay a total of 120 million dollars in several American states because it had software in its vehicles for manipulating data on exhaust gas emissions, which will resolve all the remaining proceedings in the so-called “Dieselgate.”
The company has agreed to settle environmental lawsuits related to its BluTEC vehicles with U.S. attorneys, which were once advertised as “the cleanest and most advanced diesel vehicles in the world,” according to Reuters.
Under the agreement announced today, Mercedes will continue its program of retrofitting vehicles with approved emissions software, incurring tens of millions of dollars in unplanned additional costs.
It is emphasized that these costs will not affect the company’s final income, because “a sufficient reserve has been made for the costs of the entire settlement.”
