FRSC Recovers 81 Stolen Vehicles In Just 2 Years Through NVIS Portal
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered 81 stolen vehicles in just two years through the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Portal, demonstrating the security value of the Corps’ vehicle information architecture.
The FRSC disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer Osondo Ohaeri, following the recovery of a Hyundai vehicle by a towing truck team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command at Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1 in Abuja.
According to the Corps, the latest recovery followed a clue involving a red vehicle which drew the attention of the towing team during its operation in the area. The information was subsequently used to establish that the vehicle had been reported stolen.
The development highlights how the FRSC’s vehicle identification infrastructure is increasingly playing a role beyond conventional road safety and traffic enforcement, particularly in identifying vehicles linked to criminal activities.
FRSC said the NVIS Portal provides access to vehicle-related information that can assist authorities in establishing the identity and status of vehicles encountered during operations, noting that this can prove valuable when suspicious or stolen vehicles are detected on Nigerian roads.
Reacting to the latest recovery, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the FRSC would continue to strengthen its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities to support road safety and security operations.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, noting that such cooperation would be maintained whenever operational circumstances demand.
With 81 stolen vehicles reportedly recovered through the NVIS Portal in two years, the FRSC believes its vehicle information architecture is proving to be an increasingly important tool in the fight against vehicle theft and other crimes involving vehicles.
