LASG again warns residents against crossing the Lagos Blue Line rail tracks as it will be powered by ‘electricity’.

Explains that the newly commissioned Blue Rail Blue Line will be powered by its own electricity.

LAMATA earlier explained that the rail tracks will have 750 volts passing through it, enough to kill when stepped on it.

Instead of crossing the electrified rail tracks, LAMATA urged pedestrians to use the footbridges.

The Lagos State Government has again warned residents against crossing the Blue Line Train tracks as the railroads are powered by ‘Electricity’ and can kill trespassers.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, gave the warning on Wednesday while fielding questions from presenters on Arise Television Morning Show.

He explained that the newly commissioned Blue Rail Blue Line (Marina–Mile 2) will be powered by its own electricity through a dedicated Independent Power Project (IPP) and about four power sources to avoid power outages.

Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) had earlier explained that the rail tracks that will power the high-speed trains for the Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) will have as much as 750 volts passing through it, which is enough to kill or injure when stepped on it.

Instead of crossing the Lagos Blue Line electrified rail tracks, LAMATA urged pedestrians to use footbridges that will take them into the train station, the bus station as well as to cross the expressway.

Part of statement by LAMATA reads :

“Unlike the train system, driven with diesel engine which most Nigerians are conversant with. The Blue line will be powered by electricity, thus crossing the track will no longer be an option.

“Crossing the track when the rail track is in operation early 2023 will mean instant death. We appeal that you make use of the pedestrian bridges which have been provided to cross the ten-lane Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

“The pedestrian bridge has the ability to take commuters into the train station, the bus station as well as to cross the expressway. Please, avoid going close to the tracks, your safety is important to us.”
