Brazen carjacker suffered gunshot wounds while trying to steal a vehicle allocated To G20 Summit in South Africa.
The vehicle was transporting NIU members who were conducting patrols in and around Johannesburg.
During the two-day event, VIP Protection Unit will use 70 Jetour T2 SUVs to transport Foreign Ministers and dignitaries.

A brazen carjacker was wounded by a member of the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) National Intervention Unit (NIU) while trying to use a fake firearm to steal a vehicle allocated to the ongoing G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At the time on the incident on Friday 21 November 2025, the vehicle was transporting NIU members, who were conducting patrols in and around Johannesburg to ensure the smooth running of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

“While conducting patrols along Empire Road, the hijacker jumped onto the road and pointed a firearm at the driver. Unbeknown to him, the occupants of the vehicle were NIU members. A shot was fired by one of the NIU members towards the suspect, and he sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body,” SAPS said in a statement.
“It was later discovered that the hijacker had used an imitation firearm. He was later taken to hospital under police guard. He will appear in court for an attempted hijacking charge when he is fit to do so.”

During the two-day event from 22–23 November 2025, South African Police Service (SAPS) VIP Protection Unit will use seventy (70) Jetour T2 SUVs to transport Foreign Ministers and dignitaries between their respective hotels and the Nasrec Expo Centre, where the G20 Summit is being held.
