Egypt Now Ranks 28th In World Road Quality Index, You Won’t Believe Their Position Just 6 Years Ago

In 2014, Egypt was 118th in the world in the road quality index. But in just 6 years after, the country has moved 90 places up to have the 28th best roads in the world.

The Cabinet’s Information Center published an infographic report on the advancement of Egypt’s international rankings in the Road Quality Index.

The report looked into 2014 until 2019 following the implementation of several road construction projects. Egypt’s road quality ranked 28th in 2019, 45th in 2018, 75th in 2017, 107th in 2016, and 110th in 2015. Also in 2014, it ranked 118th, according to the Global Competitiveness Reports.





The report presented the values of the Road Quality Index from 2007 to 2019 ranging from one point (worst) to seven points (best). They are as follow: 5.1 points in 2019, 4.5 points in 2018, 3.9 in 2017, 3 in 2016 and 2015, 2.9 in 2014. Meanwhile, 2.7 in 2013, 2.9 in 2012, 3.4 in 2011, 3.7 in 2010, 3.5 in 2009, 3.4 in 2008 and 3.3 in 2007.

The report explained that the government planned to construct 7,000 kilometers of roads as part of National Road Projects. The government has constructed 5,000 kilometers while 2,000 kilometers are still being implemented.

The report clarified government plans to develop, maintain and improve 5,000 kilometers of roads within the current road network.

The number of accidents decreased by 41.1 percent, recording 8,480 accidents in 2018, down from 11,098 accidents in 2017. Also, 14,710 accidents in 2016, 14,548 accidents in 2015, and 14,403 accidents in 2014, the report clarified.

The number of dead persons from road accidents decreased, recording 3,087 victims in 2018. It went down from 3,747 victims in 2017, 5,343 victims in 2016, 14,548 in 2015 and 14,403 in 2014.
