Unnamed female driver dies after a speeding train rams into her Toyota Camry that got stuck on track in Abuja.

Incident happened as the Toyota Camry sedan tried to cross the tracks at an unprotected railroad crossing.

Eyewitness said victims vehicle was likely held by the magnetic component of the rail track as she tried to drive over it.

A yet-to-be-identified female driver lost her life on Thursday (today) after a train crashed into her vehicle that was obstructing the rail tracks in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The speeding train reportedly struck her vehicle, a black Toyota Camry sedan, while attempting to cross the tracks at an unprotected railroad crossing.

An eyewitness, who shared a video and pictures of the unfortunate incident on Twitter, said that the victims vehicle was likely held “by the magnetic component of the rail track as she tried to drive over the track on her way to work”.

The eyewitness, with the Twitter handle Olisa Ogbechie, also alleged that the police onboard prevented people from helping the victim.

“In an attempt to rescue the victim by first responders and also cover the incident, the policemen at the scene, on-board the train became hostile.”

“I and a few others were brutally assaulted by the police men as they hit and sprayed pepper spray in my eyes and two others, they pointed guns as they harassed us away from the scene,” he said.

The incident occurred days after the Nigeria Railway Cooperation (NRC) resumed operation along the Kaduna-Abuja train corridor, eight months after it was temporarily closed following a terrorist attack on the Kaduna-Abuja train on March 28, 2022.
