First Production Rivian R1T Electric Pickup Truck Rolls Off Assembly Line - autojosh

The first fully production Rivian R1T electric pickup truck has been built, and they are ready for customer delivery.

A blue Rivian R1T electric pickup truck was the first to roll off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois, with CEO RJ Scaringe behind the wheel.⁣

It will rival upcoming electric trucks, including Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer, Tesla Cybertruck and Bollinger B2.

Rivian claimed that the Launch Edition of the electric vehicle, R1T Large Pack, will drive 314 miles on a full charge.

Empty batteries can add up to 200 miles of range in just 30 minutes with a DC fast charger.

Level 2 charger, found in public charge points, will charge it full in eight hours.

Rivian has become the first to manufacture an electric full-size pickup after the first fully production R1T EVs rolled off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois, United States.

Photos of the moment the first customer-bound Rivian R1T finished in blue rolled off the line were posted on Twitter on Tuesday by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, who was behind the wheels.⁣

The 7-seater R1T all-electric pickup truck, along with the related R1S SUV, were first presented at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, with deliveries originally due to start in late 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic, which grounded nearly all activities across the world, caused delays.

Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe, had earlier this month, shown off the impressive water-fording capability of its R1T, which confirms that electric cars can wade through deep water better than their petrol or diesel counterparts.

The Michigan-based all-electric carmaker also claimed that the Launch Edition of the electric vehicle, R1T Large Pack, will drive 314 miles on a full charge.

Rivian says that empty batteries can add up to 200 miles of range in just 30 minutes with a DC fast charger while Level 2 charger, found in public charge points, will charge it full in eight hours.

Being an electric car with no engine at the front, means the bonnet, the racks on top and the back of the pickup (that has a hidden lockable storage tyre compartment ) are also storage facilities.

Inside includes eight airbags, maps pre-programed into its navigation for off-roading, 10 USB charging ports, multi-media touchscreens, High-speed Ethernet for security and over-the-air software updates.

The truck is also decked with cameras, lidar, radar, ultrasonic and GPS, making it capable of Level 3 autonomous-driving. This will allow it to steer, accelerate and brake without the driver touching the steering or brake .

The Rivian R1T will rival numerous upcoming electric trucks, including the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer, Tesla Cybertruck and Bollinger B2.
