Have You Ever Wondered Why Steering Wheels Are Not In The Center ?-Read This

In a world where symmetry and centralization are usually taken quite seriously, some folks might be pretty inquisitive as to why this “rule” was not extended to the car steering wheel.
“Why isn’t it in the middle ! at least we would not have to worry about the left hand drive and right hand drive issue” like it is in the Mclaren F1 and some other rare cars.

Let’s get enlightened .

1.There would be issues with comfortably sitting two people in front, the driver included. The driver would have to sit slightly to the left or right to allow someone else sit beside him. If you have ever sat in the front sit of a Keke Marwa(Tricycle), you would understand what I am saying and how uncomfortable it is.To fix the issue of comfort with this setup, manufacturers would have to increase the width of the car, which in turn would lead to more wind resistance.
Wind resistance would make the car engine work harder to attain certain speeds, which means more fuel would be used.

2.It would be very uncomfortable getting into the drivers seat from either side of the car.

3.While sitting in the middle would mean both sides of the car are equally distant from the driver, it would also make having a centre mirror impractical, and it would move the driver further from the centre of the road, making it hard to see around some corners, such as those at intersections/crossroads, or when a Danfo is about to brush you 😉.

4.You would also have a hard time seeing what is going on in front of you, especially when there is traffic, or when you are about to overtake, because you would need to lean all the way to the right or left to see what is going on ahead.
