Here are seven (7) things to know about the newly commissioned 27-kilometres Lagos Red Line Rail, the first phase of the 37-kilometre project.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday February 29th (today) inaugurated the first phase of the much-anticipated Lagos Red Line Rail Project, which is expected to reduce travel time along the corridor to just 40 minutes.
Here are seven (7) things to know about the Red Line Rail as highlighted by Autojosh.
Red Line
The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line Rail is a 37-kilometre North South rail route that runs from Agbado in Ogun State to Marina in the heart of Lagos. The line will share the right-of-way with the Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway.
Stations
The Lagos Line Rail covers 13 stations from Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Murtala Muhammad International Airport, the Domestic Airport, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute Meta, Iddo, Ebute Ero, and Marina.
Phase 1
The newly commissioned Red Line phase 1 has stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo and it traverses a distance of 27 kilometres from Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo, Lagos.
Passengers
The Lagos Red Line trains is projected to run 37 trips and carry more than 500,000 passengers per day and more 1 million passengers per day when fully operational.
Travel time
With the Red Line, the travel time from Oyingbo in Ogun State to Alagbado will be reduced to a maximum of just 35 minutes, and Agbado to Oyingbo in just about 40 minutes, a journey that takes more than two hours through the road.
Train
Unlike the Lagos Blue Line, which uses trains powered by electricity, the Red Line system (LRMT) will use high-speed trains powered by Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel.
Capacity
One of trains that will be deployed along the route is the Talgo Series 8 trains, which can carry up to 1,000 passengers, and offer passengers many modern amenities including high-speed Wi-Fi and reclining seats.
