How To Use Your Turn Signal Effectively

Published

on

Today, every car on the road has turn signal. The turn signal’s aim is to alert other road users to your intentions.
Changing lanes, turning corner, or pulling over to the side of the road are examples of such intents.
If you’re proponent of safe driving, it’s critical that other road users are aware of your goals.
Even though using turn signal appears to be simple, the majority of people do not know how to do so efficiently.
You’ll wind up sending the wrong signals to other road users if you use it the wrong way.
And this is very likely to result in an accident.
Here are some tips on how to use your turn signal successfully while driving.

1. Before braking, use your turn signal.

Although it may seem strange to some, turning on your turn signal before putting on the brake is the proper procedure.
Drivers and other road users behind you will be able to see why you’re braking.
This will give you adequate room to turn if there are sensible drivers behind you.

2. Don’t mess about with your turn signal.

When you’re bored driving, don’t mess around with your turn signal. It should be used only when absolutely essential.
If your turn signal does not turn off after making turn, you can temporarily turn it off until the problem is resolved.
Switch signals are designed to turn off when you’ve completed the turn.

3. Use it even if there isn’t another automobile in sight.

Using the turn signals should be second nature if you’re skilled driver.  You don’t have to think of it as arduous job.
It is critical that you cultivate the practice of utilizing it anytime you drive, even if there are no other vehicles in the vicinity.
The turn signal is useful not only for other car drivers, but also for pedestrians, bicycles, and other road users.

4. Send timely signal

Make sure you utilize the signal on time every time.  It’s best to avoid using it when it’s too late. Other road users may not have enough time to react to what you intend to do if you do so.

When you’re 100 feet (30.48 meters) from your intersection, it’s time to activate your turn signal. This is usually done on the basis of guesswork.
