Ibrahim Babangida Is 80 : Ex-Head of State arriving at an event in Akwa-Ibom in a Mercedes-Benz 600 sedan in 1987.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, popularly known as IBB and nicknamed “Maradona” and “The Evil Genius”, was born 17 August 1941.

His official car, the Mercedes-Benz 600 sedan and Pullman, is a forerunner of the modern Mercedes-Maybach Marque.

It is known for being a favourite among top politicians and dictators in the 60s and 70s. It was produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1963 to 1981.





Few of its competitors back then includes Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III, Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, Rolls-Royce Phantom V and Bentley S3.

Former Nigerian Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, born 17 August 1941, is 80 years today. Babangida, popularly known as IBB is a retired Nigerian Army general who ruled the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 27 August 1985 until his resignation in August 1993.

IBB, nicknamed “Maradona” and “The Evil Genius”, will forever be remembered for annulling the June 12, 1993 presidential election. The election, which was regarded as the fairest in Nigerian history, was won by his late Billionaire pal, Chief MKO Abiola.

Babangida is believed to secretly possess a multi-billion dollar fortune via successive ownership of stakes in a number of Nigerian companies. In 2011, according to a Forbes article, Babangida is estimated to be worth US$12 billion.
