In 2028, Audi Will Give The Electric A4 A New Look
While Audi currently remains on the sidelines of the luxury electric sedan market, dominated by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW i3, the manufacturer plans a strategic re-entry in 2028 with a revived, all-electric A4. This reimagined model will feature a distinct design language, setting it apart from the A5, which previously replaced the internal-combustion A4.
In preparation for this launch, Audi has begun sharing preliminary insights regarding the vehicle. CTO Rouven Mohr has confirmed that the electric A4 will be among the first mass-produced models to incorporate the design identity introduced by the 2025 Concept C. While the limited-production Nuvolari is set for a 2027 release, the A4 is positioned to serve as the brand’s primary contender in the broader market.
A production iteration of the Concept C is slated to debut before the 2028 launch of the A4. Although the Concept C will function as a niche electric targa sports car built on the Porsche Boxster/Cayman EV architecture, the A4 sedan is expected to be the first four-door vehicle from the brand to fully embrace the “strive for clarity” design philosophy established by these performance models.
Complementing its evolving exterior design, Audi is actively revitalizing its interior offerings, acknowledging a need to address recent declines in quality standards. The forthcoming Concept C model will feature significant enhancements in cabin material quality, with a strategic prioritization of physical controls to reduce the industry-wide reliance on screen-heavy interfaces.
In a recent interview with the publication GoAuto, Audi’s Chief Technical Officer confirmed that the electric A4 is slated to be one of the first vehicles under the Volkswagen Group to utilize the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). This transition underscores the conglomerate’s commitment to advancing its electric vehicle capabilities through an architecture more sophisticated than the current MEB and PPE platforms.
Furthermore, Audi CTO Rouven Mohr has expressed a strong commitment to preserving the practical wagon body style in the electric A4 lineup. Emphasizing the brand’s heritage, Mohr remarked, “If you ask me, I fully agree that an Avant is part of the Audi DNA. Audi made the station wagon cool, and we should continue this.”
