LAMATA Plans To Have 10,000 Electric Buses In Its Fleet By 2030
LAMATA partners with Greenplinth Africa to accelerate the state’s transition to a low-carbon public transport system.
Highlight of the partnership is LAMATA’s ambitious goal to deploy eco-friendly 10,000 electric buses by 2030.
Collaboration will focus on BRT Regulation, oversight for the Blue and Red Lines and Biogas Plant Development.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced its partnership with Greenplinth Africa Limited, a pan-African green solutions corporation, as part of move to accelerate the state’s transition to a low-carbon public transport system.
LAMATA said Greenplinth Africa is expected to immediately begin work towards significantly reducing CO₂ emissions across the transport ecosystem, adding that the partnership “positions Lagos as the first sub-regional government in Africa to embark on such a forward-looking decarbonisation effort within the public transport sector.”
The collaboration will focus on 3 key areas such as BRT Regulation and Corridor development, oversight for the Blue and Red Lines in the areas of electrification and ridership growth, and Biogas Plant Development, to support the transition from fossil fuels to biofuel alternatives.
A pivotal aspect of the partnership is its support for LAMATA’s ambitious goal of deploying eco-friendly 10,000 electric buses in Lagos State by 2030.
“Under the agreement, Greenplinth Africa Limited will function as consultants and strategic partners, leading the development of a comprehensive carbon credit portfolio for both existing and future public transportation projects,” LAMATA’s spokesperson, Kolawole Ojelabi, said in a statement.
“A pivotal aspect of the partnership is its support for LAMATA’s ambitious goal of deploying 10,000 electric buses in Lagos State by 2030 — a milestone expected to position the state as a continental leader in sustainable urban mobility.”
