The biggest automakers in the world are adopting AI, and BMW is one of them, hiring an AI firm to enhance its accident simulations. BMW claims that the partnership will aid in “value creation” even though it won’t immediately or directly affect BMW owners.
In the future, BMW will collaborate with Mistral AI to improve the precision, speed, and quality of challenging technical jobs. It will train an industrial AI model by combining its extensive engineering datasets with Mistral AI’s model-training capabilities.
BMW has gathered over a petabyte, or 1,000 gigabytes, of collision data by running thousands of virtual crash simulations every week. Engineers can use that collection to examine how particular car materials and structures respond in an accident and how much each one truly affects the result.
Large Industry Models, which BMW refers to as AI systems trained specifically on engineering and simulation data from safety testing and car development, are the aim. The argument is that these models learn from BMW’s internal procedures rather than the public internet, which should theoretically make them helpful in situations where general-purpose AI struggles.
Reducing Manpower Needs
“We are thrilled to cooperate with the BMW Group as industrial AI becomes the new frontier for AI,” stated Marjorie Janiewicz, chief revenue officer of Mistral AI. “This partnership demonstrates how industry-specific AI models may assist in resolving challenging technical problems like accident simulation. ”
AI is helping BMW develop its future models more quickly, especially in the areas of coding and software development, in addition to improving accident simulations. Things that used to take a full day can now be finished in a few minutes. Joachim Post, BMW’s development director, disclosed last year that AI also enables BMW to drastically cut its labour requirements.
“In the past, we’ve needed a lot more manpower,” he stated. We can now take advantage of substantially higher efficiency possibilities. And AI is greatly assisting us in this area, such as when it comes to coding. Software development is progressing at an astounding rate, and as a result, the entire development process is also accelerating.
