Sanwo-Olu Buys New Boats To Decongest Lagos Roads.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo, recently acquired several brand new ferries. The Governor made the announcement via twitter.
The tweet by the governor reads thus:
“Beyond the entry of the private sector into water transportation, our Lag ferry service is being upgraded. More boats, better facilities and better trained personal. In #SolvingLagosTraffic other transportation alternatives must work”.
Lagos State, with an estimated population of 22 million, is notorious for congested roads.
This reform is under the supervision of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). Part of their function includes the granting of ferry licenses and concessions for the operations of ferry routes and terminals to the private sector.

Lagos UberBoat Service
Also, recall that the Gov.Sanwo-Olu recently launched the UberBoat service in the state. The UberBoat service is a partnership between the Uber, Lagos State Waterways Authority and Texas Connection Ferries.
Currently, the UberBOAT service will be available on weekdays only for the next 2 weeks (October 11th to 25th of October) along the following routes:
UberBOAT launch in Nigeria is the second recipient of the boat service in Africa after Egypt.
