SSC Tuatara Hits 316 MPH, Now The World’s Fastest Production Car
SSC Tuatara supercar hits 331 mph, sets new speed record of 316 mph to become “The World’s Fastest Production Car”
This new record beats Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’s topspeed of 304.773 mph by nearly 12 mph.
The automaker plans to build just 100 copies of the supercar.
Each of these supercar starts at $1.6 m and maxed out at $1.9M for the fully loaded variant.
On October 10, 2020, a 1750-horsepower SSC Tuatara was pushed to its limit on a seven-mile stretch of Highway in Nevada, where it achieved a pair of record-setting runs to become the “world’s fastest production car”.
Behind the wheels U.K. Formula 1 driver, Oliver Webb, who drove the SSC in both directions, setting speeds of 301.07 mph and 331.15 mph.
This gives a fastest two-way average speed of 316.11 mph, beating out the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’s 304.77 mph (490.48 km/h) by nearly 12 mph.
Oliver Webb said :
“There was definitely more in there,”
“And with better conditions, I know we could have gone faster. As I approached 331 mph, the Tuatara climbed almost 20 mph within the last five seconds. It was still pulling well. As I told [CEO] Jerod [Shelby], the car wasn’t running out of steam yet. The crosswinds are all that prevented us from realizing the car’s limit.”
In addition to settings a new production car top speed record, the Shelby Supercars (SSC) Tuatara also set three new speed records on a public road.
These includes a new record for the fastest flying mile on a public road, at 313.12 mph, fastest flying kilometer on a public road, at 517.16 km/h), and highest speed achieved on a public road, at 331.15 mph.
The SSC Tuatara has been in development since 2011 and this record-setting supercar was the first customer car. It was delivered to its buyer last year.
Powering the Tuatara is the twin-turbo 5.9-liter V8 flat-plane crank engine that pumps outs 1,750 horsepower when fueled on E85.
With 91 octane fuel, the 2,750 pounds mid-engined hypercar makes 1,350 horsepower.
The automaker plans to build just 100 copies of the SSC Tuatara supercar. Each of these supercar starts at $1.6 m and maxed out at $1.9M for the fully loaded variant.
These prices, which equates to ₦609.6m and ₦723.9 million in Naira, excludes the destination and clearing charges.
