Tesla Recommends That The Same Electrical Connector Be Used By All Producers Of EVs

Tesla has introduced a new electrical connector system called the Low-Voltage Connector Standard (LVCS), and it proposes that all electric car manufacturers use the same standard.

Tesla’s new system will reduce costs, facilitate production and improve the efficiency of car production. The new LVCS already works in the Cybertruck and uses 48-volt technology. It also saves weight and makes things less complicated, using the same energy as the older 12-volt system, but with only 25 percent of the electricity.

The six examples shown for demonstration purposes look similar, sharing the same general construction, shape and size. The big changes lie inside, where Tesla has different layouts for different wiring requirements. These six connectors can serve more than 90 percent of the typical applications of electrical devices in the car.

Tesla plans to use this technology for a future fleet of Cybercab taxis as well. The company wants LVCS to become as widespread as its North American charging standard NACS. If that happens, it could change the way the entire automotive industry deals with electrical systems and builds vehicles.
