The former head of BMW-owned Rolls-Royce has vowed to bury the V12 engine in a deep hole. Now BMW is changing direction and will retire the V12 engine sometime in the distant future, beyond 2030.

BMW’s big 6.75 liter V12 engine isn’t going anywhere. Let us recall that the former head of Rolls-Royce, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, promised to make the brand electric by 2030 at the latest. The emphasis is on the former! The current one has other plans. Chris Brownridge says it won’t happen. On the contrary, Brownridge promises to keep the V12 engine alive.

The N74 engine, which became part of Rolls-Royce’s program in 2008, will be the backbone of the manufacturer for the next decade, as the plan to produce only electric cars backfired.

– For every customer who likes an electric car, there is one who doesn’t. We are aware that some customers would prefer the V12 engine. The V12 is part of our history,” said Brownridge to The Times.

Of course, it will be necessary to adapt the engine to Euro 7 regulations.
