1994 McLaren F1 delivered new to Sultan of Brunei fetches record $25.3 million at RM Sotheby’s auction.

Record-price makes it the most expensive McLaren F1 sold publicly – vaulting 23% past the previous record of $20.5m set in 2021.

Chassis 014 is one of just sixty-four (64) road-specification examples of the pioneering McLaren F1 hypercar.

Iconic 2-door F1 features Dihedral doors and a centre driver seat with 2 passenger seats slightly behind and on each side.

A 1994 McLaren F1 just sold for a record-breaking $25,317,500 USD ($22.5 million exclusive of fees and VAT) during RM Sotheby’s inaugural Collectors’ Week in Abu Dhabi on Friday December 5th 2025.

This record-price makes chassis 014, delivered new to the Brunei Royal Family, the most expensive McLaren F1 sold publicly – vaulting 23 percent past the previous record of $20.5 million set at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach 2021 auction.

The supercar is one of just 64 road-specification examples of the pioneering McLaren F1. Delivered in Titanium Yellow over black, it was later repainted in Ibis White and upgraded with the High Downforce Kit and an LM-spec interior by McLaren in Woking in 2007.

The door sill of the F1 had the autograph of Michael Schumacher dated 12 March 1996 prior to the colour change and that of future seven-time World Champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton, following the repaint in 2007.

“Boasting Brunei provenance and later upgraded by McLaren with the fitment of a highly desirable High-Downforce Kit and LM-specification interior, chassis 014 still manages to stand proud even as an example of one of the greatest road car creations ever made,” RM Sotheby’s said.

The iconic 2-door coupe, which features Dihedral doors, has a centre driver seat with 2 passenger seats slightly behind and on each side. Power comes from a BMW 6.1-liter V-12 engine that gives an output of 618 hp and a top speed of 240.14 mph (386.4 km/h).
