2021 Hyundai i20 Debuts (Photos)

With the Geneva Motor Show edging closer, automobile brands are already showcasing their cars and Hyundai isn’t left out. In case you don’t know, the Hyundai i20 was actually available in Nigeria but poor sales affected it. The 2021 i20 is here and let’s see what this latest model has to offer.

The i20’s styling is both familiar and fresh at the same time. Hyundai’s current design language is found with the wide grille and edgy lines in the front fascia. The i20’s high beltline is still prevalent in profile, connecting with a new quarter window at the C-pillar. At the back, the i20 gains a full-width LED lamp connecting new taillights mounted in a new hatch design that looks cleaner compared to the previous model. The Hyundai i20 is larger than before being 30mm wider, 5mm longer and 24mm lower. Its wheelbase has been lengthened by 10mm to increase passenger space, too, while the boot is now slightly bigger, at 351 liters.

Hyundai only released a sketch of the interior, but it promises to be far more advanced than the outgoing model as there will be a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8- or 10.25-inch infotainment system. Below the infotainment system is “horizontal blades” that flow into the air vents. There are also new toggle switches, LED ambient lighting and contrasting color accents.  Other highlights include a wireless smartphone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and a Bose premium audio system.

Under the hood, the i20 gets a 1.2-liter four-cylinder  83 hp connected to a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai’s 1.0-liter GDi turbo 3-cylinder is optional. It will produce either 99 hp or 118 hp and it can be had with a 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain. Shifting duties with the turbo are handled by either a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox or a new 6-speed “intelligent” manual that will disconnect the transmission from the engine when the throttle is lifted.
