Meet Omobolaji Aduroja, One Of The Aircraft Engineers Saving Nigeria Billions In Aircraft Maintenance
Meet Omobolaji Aduroja. She is a licensed Nigerian aircraft engineer.
Omobolaji earned a certification from Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria. Before then, She acquired a degree in electrical electronics engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics) is also certified in introduction automation and control electrical & electronics engineering.
According to Omobolaji who once worked with Jedidiah Airline, she said one of the core skills she possesses is the ability to solve problems and use troubleshooting to rectify knotty issues.
As of 2018, Nigerian airlines, presidential fleet, Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Police spend an estimated $2.5 billion annually in conducting C-check and other levels of aircraft maintenance abroad.
According to reports, most of the funds are expended on the technical personnel, airframe maintenance. Funds are also expended on landing gear, engine overhaul and aircraft spares, etc.
However, a lot has changed since then.
From the maintenance of its aircraft in-house, the Federal Government has been able to save over $800,000 (N228 million). This is so because Nigeria’s flag carrier airline, Aero Contractor, now handles the repairs of its two Boeing 737- 500 at its facilities.
The Managing Director of Aero Contractors, Capt. Ado Sanusi, said that the in-house maintenance of its aircraft saved the airline over 60 per cent of the cost of doing same maintenance abroad.
Aero’s first successful Ccheck on a Boeing 737-500 aircraft in late 2017 has become a game-changer for the aviation industry.
The development will save local carriers at least N9.2 billion. This is from the N36 billion operators spend yearly taking their aeroplanes overseas.
Omobolaji Aduroja is part of the team saving Nigeria billions of naira annually by doing aircraft repairs and maintenance that would have been taken to countries like South Africa and Egypt before 2018.
Currently, she works as an avionic engineer with Aero contractor. There, she maintains Boeing aircraft – 737-3/4/5 series.
