Volvo Recalls 2.2 Million Vehicles Worldwide Over Front Seat Belt Issue

Swedish automaker Volvo recalls 2.2 million cars worldwide over front seat belt cable issue.
The affected vehicles include Volvo S60; S60L; S60CC; V60; V60CC; XC60; V70; XC70; S80; and S80L, all built between 2006 and 2019.
The recall ironically affected one of the biggest innovation from the Geely-owned automaker.
Volvo introduced the life-saving three-point seatbelt in 1958.
Volvo Cars is recalling 2.2 million cars worldwide to address a potential issue with cables attached to their front seat belts.
The affected vehicles include Volvo S60, S60L, S60CC, V60, V60CC, XC60, V70, XC70, S80, and S80L; all built between 2006 and 2019.
China’s Geely-owned automaker said it would contact owners of the affected models, asking them to contact their Volvo retailer to have their cars repaired free of charge.
Volvo recalls 2.2 million cars worldwide over front seat belt cable issue. The life-saving three-point seatbelt was introduced in 1958.
Volvo said :
“The issue is related to a steel cable connected to the front seat belts”
“The cable may, under certain rare circumstances and user behaviours, over time suffer from fatigue”
“This could eventually cause damage to the cable, resulting in reduced seat belt restraint function.”
Volvo said it had not received any reports of accidents or injuries connected to the flaw. It added that the move was preventative to avoid any possible issues in the future.
The recall is the automaker’s biggest to date. Ironically, it has affected one of the biggest innovation from the automaker. Geely-owned Volvo introduced the life-saving three-point seatbelt in 1958.
