Two LASTMA Officers Have Been Fired For Professional Misconduct
Two officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have been fired for severe misconduct while performing their official duties.
Four of the agency’s officials were also demoted after they were found guilty of misbehavior.
The disciplinary action was taken in accordance with the existing regulations as dictated by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations, according to a statement from LASTMA’s Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Filade Olumide.
According to LASTMA Management, the Personnel Management Board (Disciplinary), which investigated all of the officers’ reported misconduct, the allegation of bribery, corruption, and acts unbecoming of public officers was investigated, and the officers were found culpable of serious misconduct as stated in the public service rule.
The organization stated that LASTMA can only improve if and when members of the public share their experiences, both positive and negative, and offer evidence of perceived wrongdoings.
In a similar spirit, the agency’s management urged Lagos residents to always follow the State’s Traffic Law and not break it, as doing so will result in penalties.
This, according to the agency, is vital for all to promote a larger Lagos for the benefit of all and to achieve the government’s goals in the first letter of the ‘THEMES’ agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).
From September to December 2021, six officers were subjected to disciplinary action, with two of them having their appointments terminated and four others receiving a rank reduction and reprimand for various misdeeds.
