LAMATA : Old Naira Notes Won’t Be Accepted As A Means Of Payment From Monday Jan 30th
Old naira notes won’t be accepted as a means of payment for commuter service from Monday 30 January – LAMATA.
Advices residents to visit banks to exchange the old notes notes for the new notes of the same denominations.
Says commuters can download Lagos State App from Google Play/Apple Store to load their Cowry Card using your Bank Card.


The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) says that the old naira notes will no longer be accepted as a means of payment for commuter service from Monday 30 January 2023.
A statement by the agency reads :
“Dear esteemed commuters,
Kindly be informed that effective from Monday 30 January 2023, the old naira notes of N200, N500 and N1000 denominations shall no longer be accepted as a means of payment for commuter service.”


“Kindly visit your banks and exchange the old notes (N200, N500, and N1,000) notes for the new notes of the same denominations.
“You can download the Lagos State App from Google Play Store and Apple Store to load your Cowry Card using your Bank Card.”
Ahead of the Tuesday, January 31st deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria for the phasing out of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes, the three redesigned naira notes have remained inaccessible to most Nigerians.
