Jeep Celebrates 20 Years Of The Wrangler Rubicon, Launches Limited Edition Models
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Anniversary Edition returns for 2023, this time marking two decades since the package first debuted way back on the TJ. Jeep marked 10 years of the Rubicon with the first Anniversary Edition in 2013, and the fundamental approach remains the same this time around: More than a sticker package, but not enough to be a separate model in its own right, and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) is getting in on the action with an upgrade kit.
Whichever Wrangler you choose, both feature the same 20th-anniversary upgrades and while it’s primarily an appearance package, there are some mechanical upgrades. Jeep adds a half-inch suspension lift and bolts up beadlock-capable wheels, and if you choose the Hemi-powered 392, you also get an onboard air compressor. If those items aren’t enough, an optional Level II upfit from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) is available on both trims. That adds 37-inch off-road tires, a winch, AEV bumpers and skid plates, upgraded suspension, off-road lights, an AEV steering damper, tire carrier, and on the 4xe you get a 4.56:1 axle ratio.
Other features include a tweaked Jeep seven-slot grille, triple-hoop grille guard, steel bumpers (with a front winch mount), 20th-anniversary badging and decals, rock sliders, a Gorilla Glass front windshield, front-view camera, an 83-piece tool kit with canvas bag, and black-and-red leather upholstery.
The Rubicon 4xe 20th Anniversary Edition has the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the standard Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, pairing a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with electric assist for a total system output of 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with 21 miles of electric range at 49 MPGe while the Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary Edition gets the standard 392 model’s 6.4-liter V-8, good for 470 hp, 470 lb-ft of torque, and a claimed 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds.
