Toyota Unveils Yaris Cross For ASEAN Market, Looks Like A Mini Highlander

Toyota has revealed a new mid-size SUV for the ASEAN  (Association of Southeast Asian Nations ) market in the form of the Yaris Cross. Not to be confused with the Yaris Cross sold in Europe, the Yaris Cross for ASEAN countries is a brand-new SUV and will go on sale in Indonesia first, followed by other markets later.

The new Yaris Cross will slot between the Raize and the Corolla Cross in Toyota’s SUV range in the Indonesian market. The large grille and aggressive headlights at the front are reminiscent of the Highlander, while the boxy wheel arches, toned-up rear shoulders, greenhouse, and taillights send strong RAV4 vibes. The company calls it an “Urban SUV” with an interior that is “roomy” and “sporty.”

The interior does seem like a relatively pleasant place to spend some time with an upright dashboard, lots of easy-to-see and use buttons, and the inclusion of a 10.1-inch center display and seven-inch digital instrument cluster. Standard equipment includes ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, an electrically operated tailgate, and the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS kit.

Powering the Yaris Cross is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine putting out 104 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. There’s also a petrol-hybrid engine putting out a combined 115 PS power, mated to an e-CVT gearbox.

Exterior dimensions come in at 169.9 inches long, 69.7 inches wide, and 63.6 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 103.1 inches. The vehicle offers a decent approach (19º) and departure angles (28º), which will allow it to be suitable for more adventurous excursions
