Hyundai Unveils Futuristic Electric Vehicle Plant In Singapore Where Robots Does Nearly All The Jobs

HMGICS : Hyundai unveils new Electric Vehicle Plant in Singapore where robots does nearly most of the manufacturing.

Approximately 50 percent of all tasks at the heavily automated facility in Singapore are carried out by 200 robots.

To free humans from repetitive and laborious tasks, robots perform assembly, inspection, and production facility organization.

Robots also take care of more than 60 percent of component process management, ordering and transportation.

The automated facility, which can produce up to 30,000 EVs per year, has been producing IONIQ 5 since early 2023.

Hyundai Motor Group has officially opened the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) that it hopes will lead the company’s future in the electrification era over the next 50 years.

The new facility in Singapore, which employs cell-based production system utilizes artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics, leaving behind the traditional conveyor-belt manufacturing approach.

Approximately 50 percent of all tasks at the heavily automated facility in Singapore are carried out by 200 robots, with humans, robotics and AI systems achieving unprecedented levels of collaboration.

To free humans from repetitive and laborious tasks, robots perform assembly, inspection, and production facility organization, and take care of more than 60 percent of component process management, ordering and transportation.

Hyundai notes that HMGICS, which can produce up to 30,000 EVs per annum, has been in operation since early 2023, producing IONIQ 5 and fully autonomous IONIQ 5 robotaxi. It will add IONIQ 6 to its portfolio of models built on-site next year.

According to Hyundai, HMGICS has been designed to revolutionize how Electric Vehicles (EVs) and other forms of smart mobility solutions — including robotaxi and Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs) — are delivered.

Euisun Chung, the Executive Chair at Hyundai Motor Group said :

“This is not just a typical car factory, this is the first-of-its-kind electric vehicle assembly and innovation facility for Hyundai, truly an urban innovation center. And we are very happy that Singapore can host this cutting-edge innovation facility.”
