YangWang Showcase ‘Emergency Float Mode’ Of Its U8 EV SUV That Allows It To Drive And Float In Water

BYD showcase ‘Emergency Float Mode’ of its YangWang U8 that allows it to drive, steer and perform U-turns in water.

According to BYD, Emergency Float Mode, which kicks on during emergencies, initiates a list of life-saving features. 

While the Emergency Float Mode is activated, the all-electric SUV can drive, steer and perform U-turns in water. 

In addition, the rugged U8 can drive sideways. A U-turn mode also allows the vehicle to do 360-degree tank turn.

BYD’s luxury sub-brand, YangWang, has again shown off the extraordinary life-saving Emergency Float Mode of its $150,000 YangWang U8 flagship SUV in a video posted to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

In the video shared by BYD, a camouflaged YangWang U8 SUV can be seen elegantly floating on water and using its wheels as propellers, demonstrating its passive safety failsafe in deep waters.

According to BYD, the Emergency Float Mode, which kicks on during emergencies, initiates a list of life-saving features, including the closing of windows and the opening the sunroof to let air in.

While the Emergency Float Mode is activated, the all-electric SUV can drive, steer and perform U-turns in water, providing passengers with a quick and safe passage to solid ground.

“Emergency Floating Mode allows for the navigation through water during emergencies, by initiating a quick engine shutdown, raising the suspension elevation, closing windows, opening the sunroof, and displaying water depth and vehicle position on the central control screen.”

The YangWang U8 currently on sale had already garnered attention for some its cutting-edge features, including its ability to drive sideways like a motorized Michael Jackson and a U-turn mode that allows the vehicle to do 360-degree tank turn.
