Mazda Hops In To The Tesla-Designed NACS Band Wagon
It’s been quite the ride for the Tesla-designed NACS EV charging connector. From only being used by Tesla itself, it’s now becoming the de facto standard across North America, and almost all of the companies selling EVs over there have already committed to using it for future models.
Today, one of the few remaining holdouts has finally hopped onto the bandwagon, and we’re talking about Mazda. Just like all the others, its announcement is quite simple: all Mazda EVs that will launch in North America from 2025 onward will use the NACS connector.
There might be a twist, however, as Mazda specifically said “will launch,” not “will be sold,” as other brands did. So either the brand plans on launching zero new EVs this year, in which case the point is moot, or it will, but those models won’t ever get the NACS connector.
Anyway, with this move, Mazda’s future EVs will get access to Tesla’s 15,000-strong Supercharger network across North America. Mazda also promises that it will “continue to pursue the ‘Joy of Driving’ under its core value, ‘Human Centric’, and aim to deliver the ‘Joy of Living’ by creating moving experiences in customers”.
