EFCC Returns 53 Stolen Vehicles, $180k To Canadian Royal Mounted Police

EFCC returns stolen $180.3k, 53 vehicles stolen from Canadian citizens to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Collaboration between EFCC and RCMP led to the recovery the 53 vehicles stolen over a period of time in Canada.

The agency said stolen vehicles were shipped to Nigeria, distributed to multiple locations in Nigeria by the criminal elements.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned $180,300 and 53 vehicles to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The assets were recovered for Canadian victims of Nigerian Fraudsters.

The recovered assets was handed over to the representatives of RCMP in Abuja on Friday, September 6th 2024 by the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ola Olukoyede.

Speaking during the ceremony, EFCC Chairman explained that while the recovery operations spanned several years, the return of the stolen assets demonstrates the commission’s commitment to fighting financial crimes.

He said :

“We are here today to witness the handing over of assets recovered on behalf of the Canadian victims of cybercrime. What the EFCC is doing today is on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. This is to demonstrate that the government of Nigeria will never and for whatever reason tolerate any act of financial crime.”

Speaking on the returned assets, he said :

“One Hundred and Sixty-four Thousand US Dollars ($164,000) of the recovered cash assets belong to a victim, identified as Elena Bogomas while $16,300 (Sixteen Thousand, Three Hundred US Dollar) belong to another victim known as Sandra Butler.”

On the stolen vehicles, he said the recovered 53 vehicles were stolen over a period of time in Canada, freighted to Nigeria and distributed to multiple locations in Nigeria by the criminal elements.
