Hyundai Launches Its First 7 Seater Electric SUV The Ioniq 9
Hyundai Motor Group is developing several additional electric models that will utilize its E-GMP platform for electric vehicles. One of these is the new electric crossover, the Ioniq 9, which features three rows of seats. It will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
It is the production version of the Hyundai Seven concept, shown three years ago, and this novelty marks a new milestone for the brand and its unwavering commitment to electrification.
The fully electric SUV combines aerodynamic performance and aesthetic appeal, and with three rows of seats, it provides enough space for all passengers.
The number ‘9’ in the name symbolizes the large vehicle class in the Ioniq line, marking the company’s inaugural entry into the realm of large SUV EVs. Building on the success of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the Ioniq 9 is designed to redefine the EV experience thanks to a spacious and comfortable interior and Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
“Aeroesthetic” design represents a unique combination of aerodynamic performance and aesthetic appeal. This model draws inspiration from the sleek exteriors and spacious, comfortable interiors of ships. Its single-curved roofline along with the extended wheelbase provides plenty of space for all passengers, including those in the third row. In terms of dimensions, the Ioniq 9 is 5060mm long, 1980mm wide, 1790mm tall and has a wheelbase of 3130mm.
The characteristic lines of the sides are reminiscent of the diagonal lines of traditional Korean hanbok clothing. The headlights feature Parametric Pixels, Hyundai Motor’s signature lighting design for Ioniq models. The design of the multi-spoke wheels (19, 20 or 21 inches) is perfectly coordinated with the dynamic and elegant nature of the Ioniq 9.
Concerning the mentioned concept, the serial Ioniq 9 has a refined exterior and a modified interior, with space for six or seven passengers. The Ioniq 9 has 12.3-inch digital instruments and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the trunk volume is 620 litres (1323 litres with the third row of seats folded down).
There are also digital side mirrors (views from the side are projected via monitors seamlessly integrated into the cockpit on the door panels), Smart Parking Assist 2 (the car can be remotely parked while you stand in front of the car) and Highway Driving Assist 2 (autonomous driving level 2 which automatically controls speed and distance and helps you change lanes).
With its wide range of high-tech convenience features, the Ioniq 9 redefines mobility. Its innovative V2L feature helps support a sustainable electric mobility lifestyle – allowing you to freely use or charge any electric device, such as electric bikes, scooters or camping gear – while on the go or location.
The Ioniq 9 also features Hyundai AI Assistant, an AI voice recognition system similar to a home virtual assistant. Elegantly combining performance with a great array of innovative electric vehicle technology, this large SUV with 110.3 kWh batteries provides a driving range of up to 620 km.
The Long-Range RWD model is powered by a 160 kW/218 hp rear engine, and the Long-Range AWD alternative is a 70 kW/95 hp front engine and a 160 kW/218 hp rear engine. The Performance AWD version has 160 kW/218 HP motors at the front and rear.
Depending on the version, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h ranges from 5.2 to 9.4 seconds. The 800 V system supports charging up to 350 kW at DC ultra-fast charging stations, enabling charging from 10 to 80% state of charge (SOC) in 24 minutes.
The launch of the Ioniq 9 comes after Hyundai Motor Company’s record successes last year and the production of the 100 millionth vehicle this year. The company remains consistent in its commitment to electrification and aims to achieve sales of 2 million electric cars by 2030.
