VW Electric ID. Buzz Recreates Iconic Photo Of Kombi Buses Driving On Curvy Lombard Street
VW use Electric ID. Buzz to recreate iconic photo of Transporters driving on the curvy Lombard Street in San Francisco.
Famous for its eight (8) hairpin turns, Lombard Street is often referred to as the “crookedest street in the world”.
VW Type 2, which arrived in the market in 1949 is the best-selling van in history – with over 12 million units sold worldwide.
Depending on body type, the van is known as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus and informally as the Camper (UK) or Bulli (Germany).
Since its arrival in the market, the ID. Buzz has won many awards, including the ‘Icon of the Year’ at the 2023 GQ Car Awards.
Volkswagen America recently deployed dozens of the retro-styled battery-electric ID Buzz to Lombard Street in San Francisco to recreate the iconic photoshoot of the early generations of the Volkswagen Transporters (Type 2).
To replicate this iconic photos of caravan of Transporters taken by Peter Alau in 2010, participants navigated Lombard Street, famous for its eight (8) hairpin turns and stunning visual appeal. Lombard Street is often referred to as the “crookedest street in the world”.

The first series production of the retro-styled battery-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz on the other hand began rolling off the assembly line in June 2022 at the automaker’s third electric vehicle plant in Hannover, Germany.
Since its arrival in the market, the Volkswagen’s all-electric ID. Buzz has been named ‘Icon of the Year’ at the 2023 GQ Car Awards, and won the award for Best Large Electric Car of the year, awarded by What Car?
