A New Electric VW Golf Will Be Available In 2029 With Rivian’s Assistance.

Volkswagen and Rivian have connected. Rivian’s expertise will contribute to the next generation of the VW Golf, among other projects. However, this won’t be available until 2029.
Recently, more details emerged about the collaboration between Volkswagen and the American Rivian. The two companies have set up a joint venture that should develop ‘the next generation of electrical architecture and software’ for electric cars from both manufacturers. It would concern electric vehicles in all segments. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of car brand Volkswagen, tells Automotive News that the next generation of the Volkswagen Golf will also get the electrical architecture developed together with Rivian.
The new Golf – which looks set to get only electric powertrains, will be the first Volkswagen to get the new software basis. “We’ll show the electric Volkswagen Golf in 2029. The Trinity will follow later,” says Schäfer. The current Golf—the eighth generation—debuted in October 2019 and therefore looks set to have a career spanning ten years.
The Golf will not be the first Volkswagen Group vehicle to feature the Rivian and Volkswagen Technologies-developed electrical architecture. The German group’s first models are expected to feature the jointly developed technology as early as 2027.
