Automated systems safely stopped high-speed train after driver jumped out in suspected suicide on December 24th.
Non of the 400 passengers onboard the high-speed train were injured during the incident.
Incident halted train services between Paris and the southeastern regions, with around 3,000 passengers affected.
Around 10 high-speed (TGV) trains were delayed by up to five hours on Tuesday, according to report.
An automated systems safely stopped a high-speed train heading from Paris to Saint-Etienne on December 24th 2024 after the train driver reportedly took his own life by jumping out of the cabin.
The incident halted services between Paris and the southeastern regions, with around 3,000 train passengers affected by delays in services. Around 10 high-speed (TGV) trains were delayed by up to five hours on Tuesday.
After detecting that the driver was not in control, the train’s automated systems turned off the engine and kicked in the brakes, according to French state rail company, SNCF. It added that non of the 400 passengers onboard the high-speed train were injured during the incident.
The driver’s body was later discovered along the tracks. The 52 year old driver, Bruno Rejony, have worked for the company for 27 years, La Parisien wrote, citing someone at SNCF.
“A staff member noticed that there was no longer a driver in the cabin. And very quickly, he understood that, a few kilometers earlier, he had probably wanted to end his life,” Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot told French radio network Franceinfo on Thursday.
