American Customers Will Not See Stellantis’ European Brands
Stellantis has undergone significant changes in recent months. With the departure of the CEO, the American brands—Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler—now wield greater authority in defining their futures. While navigating this transition may be demanding, these brands can be confident that they will not face new competition from within the Stellantis family.
Stellantis Canada CEO Jeff Hines said last week that the company will not bring its European brands to North America. However, he noted that some European models could still be suitable for this market. For instance, a crossover like the Jeep Avenger could be a good choice, as it would offer an affordable option for consumers.
The recent news suggests that Opel or a Peugeot will not be available in the US, which isn’t surprising. As Stellantis looks for a new leader, the company is working to improve its performance in North America by reducing the prices of various models. Jeep, in particular, has focused on cutting prices, significantly lowering the MSRP of the Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, and Gladiator.
The future of the industry is uncertain due to the looming threat of tariffs and upcoming changes to fuel economy standards. Stellantis is primarily focused on rebuilding its relationship with its North American dealers. Hines acknowledged during Automotive News’ Canada Congress that former CEO Carlos Tavares did not fully grasp this market. Introducing more competition would not benefit anyone.
