The EU Is Considering Meeting With Trump To Discuss Auto Import Taxes
The European Commission is investigating what possible concessions Brussels is prepared to make to the American government of Donald Trump to make him partially abandon the import duties he has announced for cars, among other things. This is reported by the Bloomberg news agency based on insiders.
EU officials were told at meetings in Washington this week that there was no way to completely avoid the US auto tariffs and reciprocal levies that Trump is set to announce on April 2. But a possible deal to soften or reduce them was reportedly still being considered.
Brussels is now reportedly working on a document that will state which levies the EU itself may want to reduce. According to the sources, it is also looking at which investments Europe is prepared to make and which rules can be relaxed to accommodate the US. A spokesperson for the European Commission declined to comment to Bloomberg.
