Porsche Cayenne With Internal Combustion Engine Coming Soon
Porsche was betting on an electric future, but demand and adoption were lower than the company expected. It cost them dearly and forced this manufacturer into a significant course correction, which extends beyond just one model series.
According to Carscoops, the change also seems to mean a new Cayenne with internal combustion engines is coming, as Porsche’s SUV chief hinted that the redesigned model is expected before 2029. Speaking to Auto Express, Ralf Keller said the company plans to have “internal combustion engines and hybrids [available] well into the next decade.”
He went on to suggest that their future offering will be closely linked to Audi, as “we can use the MLB-Evo platform, and we can use the PPC platform.” The latter will form the basis of the redesigned Q7, which will be unveiled later this year.
It is believed that the platform will also be used on the fourth-generation Cayenne. Little is known about the model at this point, but Keller has reportedly hinted that it could adopt the Active Ride system from the Taycan.
The platform is expected to bring updates to the electronic architecture and improved integration of hybrid systems, which could improve performance, efficiency, and overall driving dynamics.
Although the Q7 is a large crossover with three rows of seats, the Cayenne won’t follow suit, as Keller said the model is “always best as a compact car, and the next one will stay true to that.” If you need something bigger, Porsche is planning a K1 flagship. That model was originally supposed to be electric before Porsche changed its mind.
The redesigned Cayenne will reportedly arrive in 2028 and will adopt styling similar to the new Cayenne Electric. A Cayenne Coupe is also expected, given the strong sales of the current model.
