Over 400,000 Vehicles Are Being Recalled By Stellantis In The US

Stellantis has recalled 419,035 vehicles in the United States due to a software bug that could delay the deployment of side airbags during a crash, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

Among other things, Jeep Grand Cherokee models manufactured between 2022 and 2026, as well as Jeep Grand Cherokee L models from 2023 to 2025, are recalled.

The regulator states that authorised services will update the control module software of the passenger protection system for free to eliminate the problem, Reuters reports.

Airbag problems also plague Honda, which has been forced to recall nearly 99,000 vehicles in the United States, including certain models of the Acura TLX, Honda Accord Hybrid and the 2022 Honda Accord.

The problem is related to the weight sensor on the passenger seat, which can rupture and cause a short circuit, NHTSA added.

Therefore, the airbags could be activated unintentionally even in situations where the system should prevent deployment, for example, when a small child is placed in the passenger seat.

NHTSA states that authorized services will replace the seat weight sensors free of charge in order to eliminate the defect.
