A Four-Door V8 Muscle Car Could Be Chevrolet’s Next Camaro
The Chevrolet Camaro is making a comeback, sticking with a gasoline V8 instead of batteries. The new Camaro may have more doors, but its core remains. After 2024, rumors suggested it might use GM’s Alpha platform, similar to the Cadillac CT5, indicating it won’t be electric. GM Authority reports a high-performance Camaro is being developed, with insiders calling it “spicy” and promising fans will be pleased.
There May Be a Supercharged V8 Coming
All eyes are on what beast might end up beneath the hood of this rumoured flagship, but Chevy is keeping its engine secrets close to the vest.
According to GM Authority, Chevy may use their brand-new naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine, which recently debuted in the 2027 Corvette Stingray and produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. It’s the most recent development in GM’s storied pushrod small-block story.
A Camaro with those statistics alone would be extremely powerful, but when Chevy adds a supercharger, things become really crazy. According to the publication, the output could surpass 700 horsepower, making it more potent than the previous Camaro ZL1.
With that level of power, the Camaro would be able to compete with the Corvette in the modern muscle car arms race. Since a supercharged LS6 isn’t anticipated for the C8 Corvette, Chevy may finally give the Camaro its own unique personality without the need for sibling competition.
Why a Camaro with Four Doors Makes Sense
The true twist, though, is that consumers are drawn to the concept of a four-door Camaro rather than the engine. The market has other ideas, but purists will always prefer a classic coupe. Performance cars with two doors simply don’t sell as well as they once did, and consumers continue to gravitate towards anything more useful.
GM might be able to spread out the price and attract customers who require a bit more room in their muscles with a four-door Camaro. The BMW M3 is evidence that you can have both practicality and tyre smoke, so it’s not like this is unexplored terrain.
Chevy may be able to play both sides with this move: a sedan for the general public and a traditional two-door for the enthusiasts. According to reports, Camaro production will begin in the autumn of 2027 at GM’s Lansing Grand River facility in Michigan. The rumour mill will continue to swirl till then. The upcoming Camaro may have more doors than before, along with significantly more horsepower.
