The year 2020 is heating up for the small hatchback market and from the stable of Honda, present the 2020 Jazz. What’s Outside

There’s not much to say about the exterior of the new Honda Jazz – well. Except for the fact it looks very like the old model.

At the front, the headlights of the 2020 Honda Jazz looks like they have been carved out of the bodywork. Around the sides, it gets the old car’s van-like (Honda calls it ‘monospace’) profile. Most notable change at the back is the horizontal taillights that replace the old vertical units. In fact, some exterior changes might be more easily spotted from inside the Jazz – like the slim A-pillars around the windscreen, which are half the width of the ones on the old model, improving your visibility out of the front of the car.

There are five versions of the new Jazz: Basic, Home, Ness, and Luxe models essentially serve as different trim levels with various trim and colour options, while a Crosstar variant incorporates SUV-esque design cues to turn the Fit into a little crossover imitator.

The Inside

The interior quality of the all-new Honda Jazz provides levels of comfort and spaciousness unrivalled in the B-segment. The contemporary interior layout echoes the clean look of the exterior, complemented with an uncluttered, user-friendly instrument panel. The wide centre console armrest also echoes interior specifications of higher segment cars.

New wider, body-stabilizing front seats feature mat-structure support, replacing the previous spring set-up, to help prevent fatigue on long journeys. Improved rear-seat design and a thicker rear seat pad render greater comfort for passengers too. Similarly, the Jazz will be the first model outfitted with Honda’s Connect on-board communication system. This includes remote control of select vehicle functions by smartphone, emergency support services in the event of a traffic accident, and security services which can dispatch a security guard to your location when “an abnormal situation occurring to the vehicle is detected.”

The thin A-pillar design improves horizontal visibility comfort for occupants. The abundance of natural light through the expansive windscreen and front quarter lights serving to enhance the sense of spaciousness in the cabin.

Powertrain

Honda hasn’t yet released information on the Jazz’s new powertrain. It is rumoured a hybrid model will feature the automaker’s newly announced e:HEV two-motor hybrid system. This new hybrid will also be available later in the Accord. While offering few details thus far, Honda says this setup will become the company’s core hybrid system moving forward, with emphasis placed on electric power over internal-combustion engines. The transmission of the 2020 Honda Jazz is unknown but it is rumoured to come with a CVT gearbox.
