German Union Accuses Tesla Of Having A Poor Working Environment
Germany’s largest labor union is accusing Tesla of creating a toxic work environment at its car factory near Berlin. The American electric carmaker is forcing employees to work too hard and putting sick workers under pressure, IG Metall reported Wednesday.
The union has filed a lawsuit alleging false accusations that one of its members recorded a works council meeting on a laptop. IG Metall has asked prosecutors to investigate a local Tesla manager for defamation.
Tesla’s management is attacking unions in Germany “with unprecedented aggression,” according to a regional leader of IG Metall. Tesla produces the Model Y at its factory in Grünheide, Germany.
According to Bloomberg, Tesla has not yet responded to the allegations. German employees have long complained about unfair working conditions. CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly expressed his hostility toward unions.
