Kaduna is the state capital of Kaduna State in north-western Nigeria, on the Kaduna River.
It is a trade centre and a major transportation hub for the surrounding agricultural areas, with its rail and road junction. The population of Kaduna was at 760,084 as of the 2006 Nigerian census.

The risk of kidnap is high in the state, with several bandit cells active and carrying out kidnap for ransom operations within the state.
Chikun LGA, Igabi LGA, Birnin Gwari and Sabon Birnin carry relatively higher risk levels of bandit attacks.
Business travellers also face a heightened risk from the recent protests and instances of civil unrest in the metropolis.
Local media could useful in determining flashpoints of unrest, and travel plans should factor in alternate routes as a mitigatory measure.
To ensure personal safety during travel, additional layers of security are required, particularly for high-profile travellers in Kajuru and Zagon Kataf LGAs.
Government security force presence may be required to contain the threat in high-risk areas.
A quick check with a local resource, at least 24hrs before a planned trip is advised.
A drilled journey management plan is advised, and general travel should be conducted between the times of 0800hrs-1700hrs.
